Frequently Asked

Questions

Where is Flow Therapy located?

Flow Therapy offers in-person and tele-therapy (also called "virtual therapy," tele-psychology", or tele-health") to residents of Pennsylvania via video and phone.

In-office sessions are located in my comfortable home office in Germantown, Philadelphia, PA 19144. The exact location will be shared privately once the first therapy session is confirmed.

Walk-and-talk / nature therapy sessions are at Fernhill Park in East Germantown. Meeting point is at 4800 McKean Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19144 near McKean Ave and Abbottsford Ave.

Public Transit:
Bus:
Take the 71 or 81 lines to Pulaski Ave. and Manheim St.

Train: Septa regional rail is available to Queen Lane, Wayne Junction and Chelten Avenue stops are within walking distance of my office (about a 10 minute walk).

Tele-health sessions are conducted through HIPAA-compliant platforms (i.e. Zoom for video sessions and Google Voice for phone sessions, respectively).

All sessions are secured for privacy and confidentiality.

How long are therapy sessions?

Each therapy session is 50 minutes long (i.e. a clinical hour). If either of us decides you need more time, we may book an additional session for that week.

What can I expect during our phone consult?
I offer a free 15 - 20 minute phone consultation to get a brief sense of what you are looking for, answer questions, and discuss possible next steps. We will  figure out if we are a good fit to work together.

We will schedule the first session or I can help you to find a referral that better suits your needs.

What are the first few sessions like?
The goal of the first session is to get to know one another. I want you to feel comfortable to tell your story, understood, and hopeful.

During the initial session, we will review the intake forms and clarify roles and expectations. I will delve deeply into your primary concerns. In the following 1 - 3 sessions, I will collect a comprehensive history (mental health, medical, relationship, work, school, etc.) to frame your presenting issues in the context of your life story. We will collaborate to create a plan to address these issues and the potential for sustained growth. With consistent attendance and your full effort, you can expect to feel lighter and experience a significant reduction of symptoms usually within the first 2-3 months (about 8-12 sessions).
How often will we be meeting for therapy?

How often we meet depends on several factors, such as your current needs and means. Overall, consistent attendance will make therapy most beneficial and effective.

I'm interested in your stories and I want to learn about your history. Usually, I suggest that we start by meeting once a week to develop a strong therapeutic relationship.

In certain cases, clients will attend twice or three times a week for needed extra support or during a period of crisis. We will collaborate to find the frequency that best fits.

Once clients notice things consistently improving and/or stabilizing, they may want to reduce the frequency of sessions to every other week.

I prioritize giving my clients my best effort and I expect the same in return. Make appointments that you can realistically expect to make so that cancellations, reschedules, or no-shows are rare. If you cannot attend regularly, we will discuss pausing treatment until you can resume regular attendance or discuss referrals to other providers.
What is the duration of therapy?

Short-term therapy is appropriate for clients who need to address a specific concern or need support going through a stressful period of life. For instance, you might be learning tools to help you deal with specific symptoms or with stress, or getting emotional support while going through a breakup. This treatment may last several months.

Long-term therapy is appropriate for clients who want to break certain unhealthy patterns that are interfering with school, work, relationships, or health. These patterns have developed over time from life experiences, family dynamics, losses, and/or trauma. Long-term therapy is necessary to address and work through these issues. Treatment may last for a year or more.

Therapy may also be ongoing over several years to provide you with continued support or intermittent. Clients may take a break from treatment and return when something arises or they need to address something.

We will work together to explore the options, decide what is the best fit for you, and check-in and adjust as needed.

Do you take insurance?
Flow Therapy is a private pay provider. It is not in-network with any insurances. I am an out-of-network provider. Your insurance company may financially reimburse you for mental health services when you see a provider who is not in-network with your health plan. I can provide you with a superbill, a monthly statement of services you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement of fees.

Reimbursement rates (usually 50% - 80% of each session) and eligibility can vary by insurance company and health plan. To determine whether you can be reimbursed for services at Flow Therapy, PLLC, please contact your insurance company and verify your out-of-network benefits.

I know this may process be confusing. I'm happy to help give you support and direction in clarifying this.
What are your session fees?
The fee at this practice is $175 per session for individual and $200 per session for couples/dyad or family therapy. Flow Therapy, PLLC is a self-pay, or out-of-pocket, provider that provides Out-of-Network benefits by providing a superbill to the client.  This means:
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your mental health treatment will cost. For more info. Click Here
I want to work together, but I don't know if I can afford your fee.
Therapy is an investment in yourself and in your relationships. Therapy has the potential to go beyond improving your life and health; it can improve your relationships and your family. You can experience long-term gains from therapy for years to come. Therapy can be expensive. With the right fit, effort, and attitude, it's a more than worthwhile investment.

Treatment can be life-altering by changing your perspective, improving your ability to deal with stress, and find peace, joy, and purpose. My ultimate goal is to empower you to create the life you want. I am efficient and skilled at what I do. If you are serious about wanting to radically improve your life,  you'll be willing commit to doing whatever it takes. Commit to prioritizing the time, commit to challenging yourself to be vulnerable, commit to yourself, commit to doing the necessary work between sessions.

As discussed above about frequency of sessions, meeting less often or only for a short period of time may be a good fit of treatment effectiveness within your budget.

I've helped many people over the years to make these positive changes. However, I cannot guarantee any improvements. There are many factors that contribute to the success of therapy.

Sometimes, we're simply not a good fit, and that's okay. In that case, I would encourage you to try another therapist. If you need help finding one, I can assist in that process by providing referrals and/or education and guidelines about the process of finding a therapist.

Other times, therapy itself is not the right thing for you or at this time. Whatever truly helps is the best thing to do. For instance, I've had clients who were not improving in therapy and decided to try martial arts to great success. Ultimately, I want to see you succeed and be happy. If therapy - and therapy with me - helps you achieve that--great! If something else and/or someone else can help you--that's also great!

Where are you licensed to practice?
I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Pennsylvania (PS019829). I maintain a professional private practice based in Philadelphia. I am licensed to provide psychological services across Pennsylvania. My clients and I must be present in the state of PA during each therapy session. Each U.S. state has its own laws pertaining to mental health services. Psychologists can only practice therapy in the states in which they are licensed, with certain exceptions. For more info. about the requirements for licensure by state check out:

www.psychologist-license.com/articles/psychologist-licensure/

Certain psychologists have a PsyPact Passport which allows them to practice in any participating U.S. state. For more info. check out:

I'm out of town and I still want to meet. Can we meet via video or phone?
Whether we can meet depends on where you are (i.e. which state) during the session (you must be in the United States) and how long you'll be there. Often, the licensing board of states in the U.S. may allow temporary practice across state lines for short periods of time (e.g. 2 weeks). If you are outside of the United States, whether we can meet depends on each country's regulations. Therefore, these requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. I am required to be present in the state of Pennsylvania for the entire duration of each session with clients, in-person or via Zoom or phone.
